Update on Sewage Spill on Gull Lake

Good Afternoon Gull and Silver Lakes Association Members and Residents.

We would like to provide an update on the reported sewage spill on Gull Lake. As our earlier messaging indicated, the Town, Regional Health Unit and the Ministry of Environment Conservation & Parks (MECP) have all been very involved in addressing and evaluating the sewage leakage issue.

We have been informed by the Town and the Health Unit that in fact the issue has been reviewed and determined that there is no detrimental impact to the water quality on Gull Lake.

Andrew Stacey, Director of Infrastructure Services for the Town of Gravenhurst has informed us that he received a positive call from the Health Unit. The Health Unit has been in consultation with them and based on those discussions has no concerns with regards to the water quality of Gull Lake. They are also satisfied that the breakdown that occurred to the lift station at 200 Pinedale Lane has been adequately cleaned and repaired.

Dr. Charles Gardiner, Chief Medical Office at SMHU provided the following:  From the details of the timing and the amount, the MECP have determined that the quantity involved has been sufficiently diluted not to be a risk.

It seems the issue is now under control with no lake water concern. If you have any additional questions, you can contact the local MECP branch at 705-739-6441.

The Gull and Silver Lakes Residents Association played a key role in bringing the issue to the attention of the authorities and reinforces the need for a strong Association to protect the interest of our lake community.

We will continue to provide any further updates if anything changes.

Enjoy the long weekend with your family and friends!
